PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving apparatus for liquid crystal optical modulator capable of improving the quality of light to be output. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal optical modulator 11 modulates light, according to the effective value of drive signal to be supplied. A driving device 21 changes the effective value per frame of the driving signal to be supplied into the liquid crystal optical modulator 11, according to the modulation data, the device 21 generates the drive signal including a plurality of pulses per frame, and the device 21 supplies the generated drive signal into the liquid crystal optical modulator 11.
