PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device for displaying a high-luminance and high-quality image while achieving power saving, and also to provide electronic equipment having the display device. SOLUTION: The display device includes a light guiding member 4 having a cylindrical reflective surface 41 having a function of guiding the light from the light source 3 to a liquid crystal panel 22, and a polarizing layer 24 that is disposed in parallel or substantially parallel to the cross section of the cylindrical reflective surface 41 near a light source 31 side of the liquid crystal panel 22 and has a function of separating the light from the light guiding member 4 into transmission light transmitting to the liquid crystal panel 22 side and reflected light reflected to the light guide member 4 side. When the cross-sectional area including the tip surface of the light source 31 in the inner region of the cylindrical reflective surface 41 is denoted with S<SB>1</SB>, the cross-sectional area including the polarizing layer 24 in the inner region of the cylindrical reflective surface 41 is denoted with S<SB>2</SB>, and the maximum incidence angle when the light from the light source 31 is reflected on the cylindrical reflective surface 41 and enters the polarizing layer 24 is denoted withθ[°],θ×√(S<SB>2</SB>/S<SB>1</SB>) is 75 or more and less than 110.
