摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for controlling the thickness of a forged article employing a die-kiss system for controlling the thickness of the forged article to a constant, which allow the forged article to be formed with the necessary minimum load while keeping the thickness precision. SOLUTION: A forging press 1 controls the thickness precision of the forged article by tightly adhering, in die forging, upper and lower die-kiss plates 9a, 9b being abutting plates disposed opposite to each other near upper and the lower dies 7, 8 of a forging die 4, The apparatus for controlling the thickness of the forged article in the forging press 1 includes: a die set 2 provided with the upper and the lower die-kiss plates 9a, 9b; a shut height adjuster 15 being a shut height adjusting mechanism which is arranged in the forging press 1 and adjusts shut height; a tight adhesion confirming means 14 for confirming presence or absence of the tight adhesion of the die-kiss plates 9 in the die forging; and a shut height controlling means 18 for controlling the shut height adjuster 15 based on the confirmation result of the presence or the absence of the tight adhesion by the tight adhesion confirming means 14, thereby setting the shut height for which a prescribed amount is increased or decreased.
