PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic balance which allows easy recognition of the type n of an article the number S<SB>R</SB>of which is to be calculated out of N types of articles. SOLUTION: The electronic balance 1 includes: an individual weight value storage unit 41 for storing each individual weight value U<SB>n</SB>for the N types of articles in advance; a load detection unit 10 which weighs the weight of the n-th article with a large number to obtain a weighed value W<SB>R</SB>; and a number calculation unit 32 for calculating the number S<SB>R</SB>of the nth article on the basis of the individual weight value U<SB>n</SB>and weighed value W<SB>R</SB>of the n-th article. The electronic balance further includes: a set number weighed value storage unit 42 for storing a weighed value W<SB>n</SB>in the n-th article with a set number S<SB>n</SB>and the set number S<SB>n</SB>in advance for each of the N types of articles; and an article type determination unit 31 which obtains the weighed value W<SB>R</SB>from the load detection unit 10 by allowing the n-th article with the set number S<SB>n</SB>to be mounted before mounting the n-th article with an unknown number and determines the type n of the article out of the N types of articles on the basis of a difference between each weighed value W<SB>n</SB>and weighed value W<SB>R</SB>of the N types of articles.
