The invention relates to a device for converting the kinetic energy contained in a water current (S) into electrical energy, wherein at least one current catcher (1, 1a, 1b) is connected to a shaft (6, 6a, 6b) by means of a rope (5, 5a, 5b) in order to drive a generator (10), wherein the current catcher (1, 1a, 1b) can be alternately switched from a first energy generation operating mode (A) applying a first flow resistance to the current (S) to a second pulled-in operating mode (B) applying a second flow resistance to the current. In order to improve the efficiency of the device, it is proposed that a control apparatus (4, 4a, 4b) be provided at the end of the rope (5, 5a, 5b) or on the current catcher (1, 1a, 1b) in order to switch the current catcher (1, 1a, 1b) from the first (A) to the second operating mode (B). |
