<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imager capable of performing suitable correction even near the center of a high luminance light source object, while suppressing smear. <P>SOLUTION: The imager includes a CCD 10, an amplitude limiting circuit 16, and a subtraction circuit 18. The CCD 10 has a vertical shift register. The vertical shift register includes a first register and a second register. The first register reads and accumulates signal charges from a light-receiving element. The second register is alternatively arranged with the first register and reads charges from the light-receiving element under the situation that the signal charge is not read from the light-receiving element or an exposure time is not established. The amplitude limiting circuit 16 carries out amplitude limiting for the signal read from the second register.
