<p>The present invention relates to an apparatus for providing text-to-speech books in lieu of reading and the invention enables a user to freely select various text information from the book with the text-to-speech device by using only a limited number of buttons without the help of a display device so that selected information is converted from text to speech. The apparatus of the present invention comprises: a selection button unit which outputs various button signals for controlling the text-to-speech operation; a text-to-speech menu unit which cyclically or repeatedly speaks a corresponding menu list in the corresponding direction according to the selected button signal; a sentence text-to-speech unit which cyclically or repeatedly speaks a corresponding sentence in the corresponding direction according to the selected button signal; a text-to-speech data recording unit which generates text-to-speech record data and stores the data in a database if a random text-to-speech unit of the respective text-to-speech units is operated; and a grade text-to-speech and display unit which calculates text-to-speech grades based on the text-to-speech record data recorded in the database, and outputs the calculated results via text-to-speech or through an indicator if a grade display button is pressed. The present invention helps the user understand the content of a book better when the user is unable to fully understand the book by merely reading the book, and the user may also obtain information more conveniently in case the user is in a situation wherein reading is not possible or the user is a visually impaired person.</p> |
