<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting apparatus capable of establishing arbitrarily the position of a discharge lamp lighting device without being affected by fluctuation in a capacity of the discharge lamp. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting apparatus 10 is provided with an apparatus body 11, a discharge lamp 12 supported by the apparatus body 11, and a discharge lamp lighting device 13 which receives commercial power and converts it into high frequency power, and lights the discharge lamp 12.
