摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance image display quality by reducing black brightness of display images to heighten contrast when displaying images of a large black area and stably generating writing discharge when displaying images of a small black area. <P>SOLUTION: A method for driving a plasma display panel includes: applying compulsive initialization waveform on a prescribed scanning electrode in an initialization period; providing a specific cell initialization subfield applying non-initialization waveform on other scanning electrodes and a selective initialization subfield applying selective initialization waveform on all the scanning electrodes in the initialization period; providing a specific cell initialization field having the specific cell initialization subfield and a plurality of the selective initialization subfields; calculating a rate occupied by a region in which the gradation value of brightness is less than a prescribed value as a black area in an image display face; and modifying generation frequency of the compulsive initialization waveform in response to size of the black area so as to reduce frequencies applying the compulsive initialization waveform on the scanning electrodes as the black area becomes larger. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
