PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient hermetic compressor by increasing a quantity of refrigerant gas flowing in a suction hole. SOLUTION: A communication pipe 159 of a suction muffler 151 has a suction muffler outlet 157 communicating with a suction hole 141 of a valve plate 143, is disposed in such a manner as to extend in a vertical direction with respect to the axial center of the suction hole 141, and disposed in such a manner that a part of the suction hole 141 is covered by a part of the suction muffler outlet 157 positioned at a downstream side of refrigerant gas 105 flowing in the communication pipe 159 in the case of an axial direction projection of the suction hole. In the suction muffler outlet 157, an effective area of the suction hole 141 is increased by setting a side where a larger amount of refrigerant gas 105 flows closer to the center of the suction hole 141, and volumetric efficiency is improved.
