PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device of excellent image quality with reduced flicker and deterioration of luminance, wherein the display device includes a backlight having light sources such as LED devices arranged two-dimensionally and can dim luminance for each light source. SOLUTION: The display device includes the backlight which includes light sources such as LED elements two-dimensionally arranged and can dim luminance for each light source. The display device includes a moving velocity detection unit (1) 109 for detecting a moving velocity of an object in a video (for example, a moving velocity of a foreground) and an emission luminance calculation unit 113 for automatically controlling luminance variations of the LED devices for each frame in accordance with the moving velocity.
