PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an IL-12 excessive production inhibitor. SOLUTION: This pyrimidine compound is expressed by formula (I) [wherein, R<SB>1</SB>is NC(R<SP>a</SP>)(R<SP>b</SP>), aryl or the like; R<SB>2</SB>, R<SB>4</SB>are each independently halogen, nitro, cyano, isothionitro or the like; R<SB>3</SB>is alkenyl, alkynyl or the like; R<SB>5</SB>is H or the like; (n) is 0 to 6; X is O, S, NR<SP>c</SP>or the like; Y is a covalent bond or the like; Z is N or CH; one of U and V is N and the other is CR<SP>c</SP>: and W is O, S, NR<SP>c</SP>or NC(O)R<SP>c</SP>]. This compound is useful for the treatment of chronic rheumatoid arthritis, septicemia, Crohn's disease, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, insulin dependant diabetic mellitus or the like.
