The present invention relates to fingerprint recognition using a portable terminal equipped with a camera and a security method using the terminal. To this end, the present invention provides a portable terminal equipped with a camera, comprising: a fingerprint recognition unit for recognizing the fingerprints of a user's fingers; the camera for capturing fingerprint images of the fingerprint recognition unit; and an image matching unit for performing an image matching process between the fingerprint images captured through the camera with previously registered fingerprint images, wherein an authentication function for use of the portable terminal or an unlocking function is carried out if the images are matched in the image matching unit, and a user locking function is set if the images are not matched.
