摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording material surface detecting device for accurately determining a recording material without being affected by the fiber aligning direction of the recording material, and an image forming apparatus having the recording material surface detecting device. <P>SOLUTION: The recording material surface detecting device 40 for detecting the surface state of the recording material P includes an LED 42 for irradiation for radiating light, CMOS area sensors 43A and 43B for imaging a light irradiating region as a surface image, and a driving arithmetic section 40C for detecting the information related to an uneven state of the surface of the recording material P. The CMOS area sensors 43A and 43B image a first light irradiating region and a second light irradiating region, respectively.
