PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce manufacturing man-hours and make it easy to force a leg shaft, without increasing a raw molding material in weight. SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a tripod-type constant velocity universal joint and includes an outer ring which is formed, on its inner peripheral surface, with three track grooves axially extending and includes roller guiding surfaces each axially extending on both sides of each of the track grooves, a tripod member with three leg shafts radially protruding, and a roller unit which is supported rotatably to the leg shafts of the tripod member and is inserted rotatably into the track grooves on the outer ring. When forging a raw molding material 52 of the leg shafts into a shape of the leg shaft by a molding surface 64 of a metal mold 60, with a clearance 62 provided on a distal side of the raw molding material in the metal mold 60, a peripheral surface 54 of the raw molding material 52 is formed into a protruded R shape by means of a tapered surface 66 formed on the molding surface 64 with which the peripheral surface 54 of the raw molding material 52 contacts and a depressed R surface 61 formed between the molding surface 64 and the tapered surface 66.
