PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming a multilayer coating film which comprises coating it twice with two different kinds of aqueous base coatings and then coating a clear coating by wet-on-wet coating, eliminates unevenness, imparts high flip-flop properties and simplifies the control of coating conditions for aqueous base coatings. SOLUTION: The method of forming a multilayer coating film includes a process (1) of applying the first aqueous base coating onto an intermediate coat formed on a target article to form the first aqueous base coating film and a process (2) of applying the second aqueous base coating onto the first base coating film to form the second base coating film.
