PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bipolar secondary battery capable of suppressing its current when the temperature in a battery is equal to or more than a predetermined temperature even if a sheath material is expanded. SOLUTION: The bipolar secondary battery 100 includes: a power generation element 40; current collecting plates 101, 102; an adjustment mechanism 50; and the sheath material 103. The power generation element is formed by laminating, via an electrolyte layer 25, a bipolar electrode 21 having: a positive electrode active material layer 23 formed on one surface of a current collector; and a negative electrode active material layer 24 formed on the other surface thereof. The current collecting plates are mutually oppositely disposed at both ends in the laminating direction of the bipolar electrode of the power generation element. The adjustment mechanism 50 adjusts the contact area between the bipolar electrode and the current collecting plates in accordance with the temperature of the power generation element.
