PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for refining aqueous nickel chloride solution (A) by which a highly refined aqueous nickel chloride solution is obtained by efficiently removing iron, copper, zinc, and cobalt from the aqueous nickel chloride solution containing these metal elements. SOLUTION: The method is to refine an aqueous nickel chloride solution (A) by removing iron, copper, zinc, and cobalt from the aqueous nickel chloride solution containing these metal elements, and involves the following 4 steps. In the first step, chlorine gas as an oxidant is blown into the aqueous nickel chloride solution (A) and nickel carbonate as a neutralizer is added thereto for oxidation and neutralization to preliminarily remove iron, and obtain aqueous nickel chloride solution (B). In the second step, the aqueous phase composed of the aqueous nickel chloride solution (B) is brought in contact with an organic phase containing a tertiary amine as an extractant for solvent extraction to remove the iron and preliminarily remove the copper, zinc, and cobalt and obtain aqueous nickel chloride solution (C). In the third step, the aqueous nickel chloride solution (C) is brought in contact with an anion exchange resin for ion exchange to obtain aqueous nickel chloride solution (D). In the fourth step, the aqueous nickel chloride solution (D) is diluted with water or an aqueous nickel chloride solution to adjust the Cl concentration, and chlorine gas as an oxidant is blown into and nickel carbonate as a neutralizer is added to it for oxidation and neutralization to obtain aqueous nickel chloride solution (E) from which the copper and cobalt is removed.
