PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly sew and convey a workpiece while avoiding displacement of the workpiece. SOLUTION: The cloth conveying device 300 includes a holding mechanism 310 for holding the workpiece C, and a moving mechanism 330 for conveying the workpiece via the holding mechanism. The cloth conveying device conveys the workpiece to a button holing sewing machine 200 to sew a plurality of button holes in the conveying direction. The holding mechanism includes: a mounting plate 311 for mounting the workpiece; a support arm 320 extended to the sewing machine side and turned up from a sewing-machine side edge of the mounting plate; and a plurality of holding members 314 supported by the support arm for pressing and holding the workpiece on the mounting plate from above. The cloth conveying device also has a positioning mechanism 350 including a positioning member 351 with a facing surface 352 facing the sewing-machine side edge of the mounting plate for positioning the workpiece, and retreating means 354 for retreating the positioning member from the moving range for the moving mechanism to move the support arm.
