PURPOSE: A compound which is useful as a dye is provided to ensure high solubility and high spectral concentration and to use in dye of liquid crystal display device. CONSTITUTION: A compound which is useful as a dye is denoted by chemical formula 0. In chemical formula 0, A is bivalent aromatic hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent; R1 and R2 are saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group of C1-C20 which may have substituent, aralkyl group of C7-C20 which may have a substituent, or aryl group of C6-C20 which may have a substituent; Z is oxygen atom or sulfur atom; X is carboxylic group or sulfonyl group; and A is phenylene group.
