The projection display (1) includes an illumination optical system (10), a first color separation optical system (21) for separating the light from the illumination optical system into a first color light (G) composed of a green light and a second color light (RB) composed of a red light and a blue light, a second color separation optical system (30) for separating the second color light into the red light and the blue light by a time-division system, a first liquid crystal unit (50a) for modulating the first color light, a second liquid crystal unit (50b) for modulating the red and blue lights by a time-division system in synchronism with the color separation by the second color separation optical system, a color combining optical system (61) for combining the modulated first and second color lights, and a projection optical system (71) for projecting the combined lights.</p> |
