The method involves varying combustion parameters of three cylinders (12, 14, 16) in an four-stroke internal combustion engine (10). The combustion parameters of the cylinders in a set of operation cycles (28, 30) are varied in subsequent operation cycles (32, 24) of the cylinders. Ignition timing and/or injecting parameters of the latter operation cycles are varied in relation to ignition timing and/or the injecting parameters of the former operation cycles. An ignition sequence of the cylinders is varied. An independent claim is also included for a four-stroke internal combustion engine comprising cylinders.
