<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new cytokine which is not inhibited enough to be sensible by Fas/Apo-1, TNF-R1 or TNF-R2 receptors, etc. <P>SOLUTION: The new cytokine, designated as Apo-2 ligand, which induces mammalian cancer cell apoptosis, is provided. The Apo-2 ligand is believed to be a member of the TNF cytokine family. Compositions including Apo-2 ligand chimeras, nucleic acids encoding the Apo-2 ligand, and antibodies to the Apo-2 ligand are also provided.
