PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an X-ray imaging apparatus, being set to the optimum X-ray condition according to an irradiation area of an X-ray to be changed without intervention of an operator in the middle of photographing or radioscopy of a subject. SOLUTION: This X-ray imaging apparatus includes: an X-ray irradiating means 1 for irradiating an X-ray B; an X-ray setting means 51 for setting the X-ray condition of the X-ray irradiating means 1; an image acquiring means 7 for acquiring an image of X-rays transmitted through a subject M; a light receiving area measuring means 56 for measuring a light receiving area of the X-rays transmitted through the subject M; a light quantity measuring means 57 for measuring the quantity of transmitted light of the X-rays transmitted through the subject M; light receiving area changing means 80, 81 for changing the light receiving area; a calculating means 58 for calculating a quantity of unit area transmitted light from the light receiving area and the quantity of transmitted light; a storage means 59 for storing a preset unit area optimum quantity; and a control means 52 for controlling the X-ray setting means 51. The control means 52 sets the X-ray conditions so that the quantity of unit area transmitted light is within the unit area optimum quantity according to the displacement of the light receiving area.
