PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the deterioration of light quantity at the both side ends of a main scanning direction, and to make uniform the peak positions of the light quantity in a sub-scanning direction in a main scanning direction even when an interval between an original and a stand on which the original is placed is changed in an original illumination device to be used for an image reading device. SOLUTION: This original illumination device is provided with light guide sections 100a and 100b for guiding the rays of light to be emitted from first and second light emitting arrays 101a and 101b to the reading region of an original, and the light guide sections 100a and 100b are formed such that both a first peak position in the sub-scanning direction of the light quantity to be emitted by the first light emitting element array 101a and a second peak position in the sub-scanning direction of the light quantity to be emitted by the second light emitting element array 101b deviate from the center of the reading region in the sub-scanning direction, and that the peak position whose light quantity is larger between the first and second peak positions is made closer to the center of the reading region in the sub-scanning direction than the neighborhood of the center at the end of the main scanning direction.
