PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute an appropriate pulse compressing process considering frequency-dependent attenuation of biological tissue in an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus for transmitting chirp waves and executing the pulse compression process for received signals. SOLUTION: A process of correcting the frequency characteristics is executed for the received signals based on the attenuation coefficientαoutput from an attenuation coefficient determining part 20 in a correction part 18, and the received signals after the correction are subjected to the pulse compression process. By acquiring evaluation values on the image after the pulse compression while tentatively changing the attenuation coefficient, the best evaluation value is specified among the evaluation values, and a frequency characteristic correction function to be used for the real ultrasonic diagnosis is set based on the specified attenuation coefficient.
