PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method performing a performance test of a gas detector under various test conditions, without using a sample gas and sacrificing the gas detection capability of gas sensors. SOLUTION: The performance testing device for the gas detector is employed to test the performance of the gas detector equipped with a gas detector body, which has a gas-detection-unit mounting part on which a plurality of gas detection units equipped with gas sensors whose kinds of test object gases or concentration detection levels are different from each other respectively are mounted selectively exchangeably, and a main board having a signal processing system common to all the gas detection units. The performance testing device for the gas detector is equipped with the body of the performance testing device having the function of generating a test output signal corresponding to an output signal to be acquired when a gas detection unit relative to a designated detection object gas detects a gas having the designated concentration value, and of supplying it to the main board in the gas detector body, through a sensor unit for tests mounted on the gas-detection-unit mounting part.
