PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gateway device and method efficiently storing data transmitted to the gateway device. SOLUTION: The gateway device is equipped with: two or more communication parts which use a hardware circuit to communicate data to be transmitted and received through a communication path to/from a controller which controls a vehicle, a software processing part for software processing the data received by the communication parts and a storage part for storing the data that the communication parts are to transmit through the communication path to the controller. In the gateway device, the data to be transmitted by the controller include: relay data to be relayed to another controller; and processing data to be processed by the software processing part, and the software processing part performs setting so that the storage part relating to the communication path through which the communication part does not transmit the relay data, stores the processing data, and software processes the processing data stored by the set storage part.
