IMAGE DISPLAY METHOD AND SYSTEM, AND PROJECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the overexposure without changing the impression of a display image as a whole. SOLUTION: An image display method regulates the display image by light control processing of illumination light and extension processing of the number of gradations of a video signal. The method includes: a first step of extracting image parameters characterizing the brightness of the display image from the video signal in every unit time; and a second step of determining system control parameters related to the light control processing and the extension processing while being dependent on the temporal change of the image parameters and gradually performing the light control processing and the extension processing based on the system control parameters. Further, the method has a correction step of correcting gradation characteristics of the video signal in such a manner that the video change is not perceived and the overexposure doesn't occur during extension of the number of gradations of the video signal up to a target gradation.
