PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a virtual image type sign display device with which a virtual image with lessened distortion can be formed in a prescribed position without obstructing the visual field of a driver. SOLUTION: The virtual image type sign display device includes: a light source unit 2 having a light source 5, and a mask plate 7 located in front of the light source 5 and formed such that a required pattern is used as a light transmissive portion 7a; a flat mirror 3 located frontward in the emitting direction of the light source unit 2; a transparent plate unit 4 located opposite the light source 5 with the normal of the flat mirror 3 therebetween and having a transparent plate 11 of a tiltable storage system. Thus, an actual image of light emitted from the light source 5 and transmitted through the light transmitting portion 7a of the mask plate 7 is reflected by the flat mirror 3, and the image reflected by the flat mirror 3 is projected onto the transparent plate 11. Then, the image projected on the transparent plate 11 is reflected by the transparent plate and further projected onto human eyes (e).
