<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a database management system, a navigation apparatus and an abbreviated word registration device, capable of reducing an incongruity sense felt to an abbreviated word by a user. <P>SOLUTION: In the database management system, attribute information of a registrant and information related to a way of abbreviation of a term are associated and stored as data. Thereby, a database capable of providing a proper term abbreviation method is constructed according to the attribute information of the user, and a proper abbreviated word can be selected according to the user in the database capable of being updated by a plurality of users. In the navigation apparatus performing route guidance to a destination, because can perform the guidance by use of the abbreviated word corresponding to the user, the incongruity sense felt to the abbreviated word by the user can be reduced.
