<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a component mounting apparatus that alternatively changes and performs non-stopped mounting in which component mounting operation to a substrate is continued even during replacing a stage, and multi-head mounting in which component mounting is performed by a plurality of mounting heads to substrate. <P>SOLUTION: When a partition member 6 is attached within a working space 4, component mounting to a substrate PB is performed by moving each mounting head 11 within a corresponding small working space 5. When there is an opened door 20, the operation of a substrate transfer path 8 and a mounting head 11 which are accessible from the opened door 20 is stopped. When the partition member 6 is not attached within the working space 4, component mounting to the substrate PB is performed by moving each mounting head 11 beyond the corresponding small working space 5.
