PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation and extension of cracks and peeling of monolithic refractories in various types of refining furnaces and a molten metal container having a lining refractory mainly made of the monolithic refractories. SOLUTION: This molten metal container includes: permanent bricks 7, 8 lined on the inner face of a shell 6: and a plurality of shaped refractories 4 and monolithic refractories 5 lined on the inner face of the permanent bricks 7, 8. The shaped refractories 4 are sandwiched by the permanent bricks 8 leaving gaps therebetween and fixed, and the monolithic refractories 5 are provided in the gaps between the shaped refractories 4.
