[Class 12 (i)] A stationary shaft for a gear wheel is mounted in a casing and pressed sideways in the direction of or opposite to the working load. The tubular shaft 11 is mounted in an aluminium casing 13 and carries an aluminium plug 14 fitting the shaft near each end. Each plug 14 is pressed against the casing by a bolt 20 threaded into a countersunk bronze or steel bush 19. The bolt may screw into the casing 13 and engage a socket in the plug.
