PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable liquid crystal optical element capable of being easily and reliably connected with an external circuit. SOLUTION: A second electrode 309 formed in an extension part of a third substrate 303 is connected with a first electrode 307 formed in an extension part of a second substrate 302 by using electrical conductive paste 306 in a region being different from another region where an FPC connection 305 and the second substrate 302 are mutually connected.
