<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a content playback device, method, and program which (1) does not need to prepare a license issuing device, (2) plays back a content even under an environment where the content playback device cannot communicate with the license issuing device, (3) limits viewing even when the content is copied with an unexpected method, and (4) enables a user to copy the content without using a method designated by a content provider. <P>SOLUTION: A data interpretation means 11 interprets digital data and reads a content and its distribution date and time, whereas a current date and time acquisition means 12 acquires the current date and time. Then, a quality degradation means 13 calculates a time passed after distribution (a time difference between the distribution date and time and the current date and time) and degrades a playback quality of the content in accordance with the time passed after distribution.
