摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display an image of contrast heightened by suppressing black luminance while generating stable writing discharge without greatly increasing a driving voltage even in a large-screen high-definition plasma display panel. SOLUTION: One field is configured by using a plurality of sub-fields for performing an initialization operation to generate initialization discharge at a discharge cell, a writing operation to generate writing discharge, and a sustain operation to generate sustain discharge. In at least one of the sub-fields, a down-slope waveform voltage is applied to at least one of scanning electrodes by a plurality of times to perform an initialization operation, and a down-slope waveform voltage is applied to a sustain electrode for each application of the down-slope waveform voltage. For the down-slope waveform voltage applied to the sustain electrode, a gradient of a down-slope waveform voltage applied later in time is set steeper than that of a down-slope waveform voltage applied earlier in time.
