An electric motor includes a stator of columnar shape including a stator core of annular shape and mold resin molding the stator core, the stator core accommodating a rotor configured to rotate about a rotary shah and a position detecting circuit board including a position detecting element configured to detect a position of the rotor. The stator has a cavity for accommodating the rotor. One end of the cavity is covered by the mold resin. The position detecting circuit board is placed on an opposite side from the rotor across the mold resin covering the one end of the cavity.
