The invention relates to a method for producing a security and/or value document containing a polymer laminate formed from a basic polymer laminate and a polymer coating. At least the polymer coating has a printable substrate layer that can absorb a diffusible ink. Said method encompasses the following steps: A) a first printed image is produced on the printable substrate layer of the basic polymer laminate or on the basic polymer laminate by printing a sublimation ink sublimating at a given diffusion temperature by means of a printing process; B) the printable substrate layer of the polymer coating is placed on the first printed image; C) the stack comprising the basic polymer laminate and the polymer coating is laminated by heating the stack to a given lamination temperature; D) simultaneously with or following step C), at least subareas of the stack relative to a main area of the stack are heated to a temperature exceeding the diffusion temperature of the diffusible ink for a given period of time such that at least some of the diffusible ink of the first printed image is diffused into the printable substrate layer of the polymer coating.
