The method involves producing a binary code sequence (105) from the digital data (104) which is used to transmit amplitude-modulated light waves (106) across an optical free space between a transmitter (101) and a receiver (107). The binary code sequence is produced such that a modulation frequency of the light waves determined by the binary code sequence has a value of 70 Hertz. An independent claim is included for a device for transmission of digital data in an optical free-space transmission system.
