PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a mode of an electronic book device are provided to remarkably reduce power consumption in a standby mode by operating an auxiliary processor in a standby mode. CONSTITUTION: A main processor(104) controls the display of a display unit in an operating mode and monitors the initiation of a standby mode to generate a mode switching control signal. An auxiliary processor(114) operates the standby mode based on the standby power provided from a power management block(112) to have a power consumption level lower than the main processor.
