<p>An aerosol container compacting device 1 comprises an enclosure 2 with an inlet 3, a compacting unit 5 for crushing the aerosol containers within the enclosure and an extraction system 6 for extracting gas discharged from aerosol containers crushed by the compacting unit. The extraction system maintains a negative pressure within the enclosure while aerosol containers are introduced through the inlet. The device may include a collection tray 7, preferably with an associated flushing system 70, the tray being located beneath the compacting unit for collecting residual product released from the aerosol containers as they are crushed by the compacting unit. The device can also include a fire containment system 8, an air conditioning unit (9, Fig. 2), and a control unit 10. A method of preparing aerosol containers for disposal or recycling is also claimed. In another aspect, a shipping container is retrofitted to produce the aerosol container compacting device.</p> |
