<p>PURPOSE: A method and a system for copying a frame buffer for transmission to a remote display are provided to reduce a computing overhead by transmitting updated display data of a secondary frame buffer corresponding to the marked entries having a trimmed data structure. CONSTITUTION: Remote desktop servers(100) include a display encoder(160) that maintains a secondary frame buffer(162) that contains display data to be encoded and transmitted to a remote client display. The display encoder submits requests to update the display data in the secondary frame buffer to a video adapter driver(154) that has access to a primary frame buffer(142) whose display data is updated according to drawing commands received from applications(148,400) running on the remote desktop servers. The video adapter driver utilizes a spatial data structure(156) to track changes made to the display data located in regions of the primary frame buffer and copies the display data in those regions of the primary frame buffer to corresponding regions in the secondary frame buffer.</p> |
