Apparatus for separating particulates from a fluid stream

A tank with a bottom 17 and interior side walls defines a storage chamber with a fluid inlet 12 at a first location and a fluid outlet 13 at a second location on the interior sidewall. The bottom of a curved baffle 14 within the tank is spaced above the bottom of the tank, the baffle being a solid wall 30 with a port 27, and the inlet and outlet being located to the exterior side of the baffle. A bypass 24 is positioned to the exterior side of the baffle and has a floor 40 that extends from the baffle to the interior sidewalls and below the inlet and the outlet. A curved screen 100 within the tank extends from the baffle into a lower portion of the storage chamber and a screen extension 106 spaced above the bottom portion of the tank and beneath the bypass extends from a lower end of the curved screen to the interior sidewalls of the tank. Fluid with entrained particulates flows into the tank at the inlet, through the port 27 in the baffle and swirls around in the interior of the tank to leave the particulates collected in the bottom of the tank near the centre. The cleaned water flows through the screen and screen extension up through the pipe 50 and out the outlet 13.
