A bag where a valve is prevented from being blocked by a member that maintains an air clearance

A bag with a one-way valve (930) for evacuation of the air within is disclosed. The valve (930) has a mechanism for preventing the sides of the bag collapsing under vacuum and blocking the valve (930), which would prevent the extraction of all the air. The bag has two flexible walls (902, 904) and closure strips (920, 922) to seal the bag opening. The one-way valve (930) communicates with the internal volume (906) of the bag via a hole in one wall (902) and is constructed from wholly flexible components. These are a base layer with a central aperture and a top layer to cover the aperture which is adhered to the base layer by adhesive strips. The adhesive strips extending along either side of the aperture to form a channel through which air may be taken from the bag. The base layer and the top layer may be comprised of a flexible thermoplastic film. A clearance member (962) provides a clearance between the other sidewall (904) and the one-way valve (930) preventing blocking of the valve (930) during evacuation of air from the bag. Alternatively, the job of the clearance member may be done by a textured portion of one or both walls about the valve (930).
