A system for storing food includes a storage bag 900 including a flexible sidewall 902 and a one-way valve 930 attached to the flexible sidewall and communicating with the interior 906 of the bag volume. The bag includes a non-woven material barrier element 950 for separating liquids from air that covers the valve. The system includes an evacuation device including a housing having an inlet opening adapted to be placed adjacent the sidewall about the valve element.
