A mattress foundation (100) that is constructed substantially of plastic material is disclosed. The foundation (100) is defined by a semi-rigid cavity including a generally flat top surface (110), at least one downward depending sidewall (120), and at least a portion of an outer surface of the sidewall (120) having a pattern formed thereon. Optional ground support members (130, 140) retain the foundation in a substantially horizontal orientation. An outer surface of one or more of the ground support members (130, 140) also has a pattern formed thereon. An outer surface of an optional headboard and a portion of an upper side of the top surface (110) may also have a pattern formed thereon. The pattern formed on the sidewall (120), the top surface (110), the ground support members (130,140), or the headboard may give a quilted appearance to the foundation. The pattern may be three-dimensional or may be substantially flat. The pattern may be integral with the foundation (110) or attached thereto.
