Compounds of formula (I) where; A, E and D are CR2 or N where R2 is defined in claim 1 and at least 1 of A, E and D is N; and X represents O or NR22 where R22 is defined in claim 1; and Y represents R3R4; and R represents H or optionally substituted alkyl R1 is defined in claim 1; and R2 is defined in claim 1; and R3 and R4 each independently represent optionally substituted alkyl, or together with the N-atom optionally substituted N-containing heteroaryl or optionally substituted N-containing heterocyclyl. The compounds are used for the treatment of central nervous system disorders, in particular anxiety. The compounds are ligands for the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor or other biological targets that elicit an anxiolytic effect.
