A metering and mixing device which can be connected to a container containing a liquid for a system for hygienically reconstituting and delivering food preparations, such as drinks, includes a liquid metering duct 69, a diluent intake 71 with a diluent duct 70, a mixing chamber 80 for mixing the liquid with the diluent, and an integral pump 6. The diluent duct is positioned with respect to the liquid metering duct so that the diluent stream intersects the base liquid stream before or at the mixing chamber. The pump 6 meters the base liquid in the liquid metering duct. The diluent stream is accelerated through the nozzle 72 so that the velocity of the diluent stream is high in the region where the diluent and liquid meet.
