PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerizable liquid-crystalline compound having the wide temperature range for its liquid crystal phase, high compatibility with other compounds, and also necessary properties including optical anisotropy, to provide a polymer thereof excellent in many properties including transparency, mechanical strength, coatability, solubility, crystallinity, shrinkage, water-permeability, water-absorbing degree, melting point, glass transition point and chemical resistance, to provide a molding having optical anisotropy made from the polymer, and to provide a liquid crystal display including the polymer. SOLUTION: The polymerizable compound is represented by formula (1): R<SP>a</SP>-Z-(A-Z)<SB>m</SB>-R<SP>b</SP>or formula (2): R<SP>a</SP>-Z-(A-Z)<SB>m</SB>-R<SP>a</SP>. In these formulas, R<SP>a</SP>is a polymerizable group; R<SP>b</SP>is a terminal group such as alkyl or alkoxy; A is a ring such as 1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene, wherein at least one A is 2,3-bis(trifluoromethyl)-1,4-phenylene; Z is a single bond, alkylene, oxyalkylene or a bonding group such as -COO-; and m is an integer of 1-6.
